It’s quite difficult to describe Open Mike Eagle’s style, because as far as hip-hop is concerned the LA-based MC is really carving out a steadily growing niche for himself, baring a style incomparable to other artists. There really isn’t anyone out right now combining his sort of mellow delivery and soulful singing voice, while staying loyal to the sincere wit and introspection of his actual personality.
All of those things are on full display here with his new single “Nightmares”, taken from his upcoming album Rappers Will Die of Natural Causes, out June 7th on MC Nocando’s Hellfyre Club label. For anyone to new to Open Mike Eagle, “Nightmares” is an excellent introduction, as it combines all of his different facets in to a neatly wrapped, soulful hip-hop track. The lyrics are also quite inspired, and way less serious than we’ve come to expect from hip-hop artists these days. Interesting enough I watched Open Mike Eagle shoot a video just a couple weeks back for this song, which should be out soon as well.
